The Five Islands School on the Isles of Scilly consistes of five bases, each with their own unique character. The numbers of pupils in each school base are small in comparison to National Averages. The island of St Mary's houses the two largest schools, Carn Gwaval Primary and the Carn Thomas Secondary. Tresco, St Agnes and St Martin's has primary sites on the off-islands. When off-Island pupils reach Secondary age they are provided with a place at Mundesley hostel (Mon - Thurs), so they don't have to travel by boat every day to school. There is usually an average of between 20 and 30 pupils at any one time staying at the hostel. The school was inspected in May 2007 and the Inspection report Opens in a new window can be found on the Ofsted web pages. The opening, ringing phrase is "The Five Island School is an outstanding school and the children and young people educated there are a credit to this unique island community."
The Headmaster of the Five Islands School, Bryce Wilby, will be talking at the Isles of Earth Summit about the role of education in tackling climate change.
